Bucharest’s proposed bus lanes: mapped

Mihai Arcalean – a medical student with an interest in public transport – has drawn up a Google Map showing exactly where Bucharest’s long-promised dedicated bus lanes will be located. You can see it here.

When will the bus lanes be operational? Nobody knows. Nor does anybody yet know when the 400 new buses, 100 new trolleybuses and 100 new trams (the acquisition of which was approved last year) will be purchased. Bucharest’s mayor has other priorities, such as organising pointlessly expensive folklore festivals and criticising parents who take their children to anti-corruption protests.

Meantime, Bucharest will continue to move at a snail’s pace, cramped inside decrepit old trams and buses running at intolerably long intervals.
