The city council has spoken: Bucharest will not be hosting the 2020 Olympic Games

You have to love ambition. And Bucharest’s Mayor Sorin Oprescu has plenty of ambition.

He earlier this week announced his desire to see Bucharest host the Olympic Games in 2020, bless him.

Today, Bucharest City Council decided hosting the Olympic Games was not a priority, and voted Oprescu’s idea down. All very predictable.

What we love, however, is the way this news was reported by the website HotNews.ro:

The headline says ‘Bucharest will not host the Olympic Games in 2020. The city council has rejected the mayor’s idea.

Perhaps ‘Bucharest will not bid to host the Olympic Games in 2020‘ would have been a better title?

After all, the news that Bucharest will not host the Olympic Games in 2020 is not really a surprise.

Call us cynical, but we kind of knew long before the council even voted on the idea that Bucharest would not host the Olympic Games in 2020, a bit like we know Romania will not be sending anyone to Mars in the near future.

How do we know these things?

Let’s just say we do…
